Re: Anyone remember Janet Elsy?

Hence yours today and it enticed me back. Although I do visit the boards from time to time. I'm known as Sa...

Great, offthewall...you always come out with an atmospheric story or two!! My first memory of it was being wheeled past in my pushchair!!!!!Sooooooo, seems like it was always Gandhi's Temple tho' this is new to me. I suppose I can see that it looks a bit like a temple but the Gandhi bit? Perhaps all...

Just been up and I had a look at the renovation of the derelict cottage at Souter and thought it looked great. They've put in french windows and the whole thing, house and garden, is beginning to look very attractive. Mind, it was a really lovely, hot day but I just thought what a great place to live.

Gandhi's Temple

You know the bandstand near The Sanddancer pub? Well, I've always known it as the bandstand but my Dad tells me that people of his generation called it 'Gandhi's Temple' but he doesn't know why. Anyone know?

No, baldy. No older sister called Maisie. But Elsy is not really a common name is it? So they could be related somewhere. Janet Elsy's father was the Elsy in Elsy & Gibbons.

memor.....just another person we both knew!!!!!!!!.....and another that you "admired"..........

Hi Marilyn!! Yes, I remember you very well. And Sandra a bit more vaguely. In fact, I've mentioned you both in a Latino/Tavern topic SOMEWHERE on here!! I think I've mentioned The Ferry Tavern as well....somewhere. Well, well......I made this post well over a year ago so, it just shows you, it's nev...

Cisco, my memory could EASILY be letting me down, really. But does the name Gilbert Daniels sound at all familiar to you? Your story of the 'smoochy' (or whatever) dance in the low light is the same for me too. It was all the rage to go there just for this. I only managed to get there a once or twic...

Cisco, we're going back a bit here, eh? You were talking about Harry Heilbrons at Westoe? If it's the same place, I remember it as Gilbert Daniels.....or were there two?

Angela, a lot of us come on here for some light relief and to have some fun. When we DO need to ask a serious question, yes you get all the jokes at first which are really quite entertaining sometimes, and then someone comes up with the information or answer you want. I thought Brian came up with th...

George, did you go to the Marine & Tech after Stanhope and usually sat next to Lawrence Rutter? If so, I know you.

BigRy, I think that's the same family I'm talking about but the caretaker was Chris Buglass not John. Does that sound right?

And yes, The Rolling Stones. I was sorting out my cupboard of vinyl at the weekend and I couldn't believe the number of Stones albums that were in there.

Aaaah baldy.....do you still have the clothes?? Don't worry about being a bit of history. I'm not that far behind you. Now baldy, I know the Frankies Cafe you're talking about but I also remember a second (newer one?) further towards Trow Rocks, just past the turning to the bandstand, as in this pic...

Yes, I remember them too. People paid MONEY to have holidays in these chalets and they were fully booked during the summer holidays. When I was tiny, I used to watch in envy. I wanted to live in one!!

This DOES make me feel old. Although, judging by the clothes, it was taken before my time!! That must be Frankies Cafe and if you turned right in the picture it would take you up to the Bandstand?
