Hi, All this talk about ferries makes me sea sick, what about all the British Tankers on the tyne, I used to go down the Mill Dam before school after my paper round at the Hill to watch the ship. I finished up doing 42 years at sea, grand days they were.

Readheads ship "Himerland"
In the 1960s, does anyone remember the Himerland fitting out, and any of the joiners, one nicknamed the phantom joiner who used to jump the wall regularly and come back to clock off.

Thats right Geordie, Vic had a sister called Vera and a brother called Dennis, lived in Bamburgh Ave. then later at the bottom of Marsden Lane, I think Vic now lives in Immingham or near that.

I was in the 7Th. B.B. which was in the Baptist Tabernacle at laygate and later went to the new Baptist Tabernacle in Horsley Vale , that was in the late 1950s, we became the 8th.B.B. in the new church, there was a Captain Rigby, I remember a Mr. Smith and his sons, and Eric.

yes John Coates shop was King Tuts, I remember him from the 1950s selling bundles of sticks from Embleton ave. at the hill. His mother sold toffee cakes to us kids and she had a stall in the market, good old times.

Pete, dont remember that, Alan Hodgson in my class went on to serve his time at the pit, as an electrician,he married a girl from our class called Pat Burdis and they live at marsden, I might have been away when that incident happened.
