Re: Big Garden Birdwatch 2014

Totally forgot about the survey. This morning in the garden I've seen countless spuggies, a couple of dunnocks, robins, blue t*ts, great t*ts, blackbirds and a load of gulls and jackdaws on the garage roof when I threw some bread out.

Oddly, I saw a parakeet flying around Parkway estate today. It would seem someone's pet has escaped.

Re: first one I've got of a fox. In river drive

Went to check the allotment, as i was unlocking the shed door i was aware of being watched. A young fox was stood 6 feet away beside the gate watching me struggle with the padlock on the door. I went into the shed and it came onto the allotment and had a sniff around before jumping over a fence. I k...

Re: a heron by Global

Me mam had a pond in the back garden years ago and saw some huge bird take off, she went outside and the next door neighbour told her "It was a heron, i watched it fishing in your pond for ages"....

Re: This town, is turning into a ghost town

Smoking ban, recession, cheap supermarket prices, health consciousness. So many reasons that pubs are seeing a drastic drop off in custom. I personally, after many years of preferring the inside of a pub to the outside, have pretty much given up on them. Having said that im looking forward to a nigh...

Yeah that's the chap Jimmy, when i compare it to a snipe it seems the more likely candidate. The beak didn't seem as long as a snipes.

Re: Shields Fauna

A Thrush? Def not a thrush, wrong shape, darker colouring and a long thin beak. I saw some kind of warbler in a garden in Dunlop crescent today, it looked most like a garden warbler but they arent resident during the winter. The other half saw a pair of birds that looked similar in our garden yeste...

Re: Shields Fauna

I have, while blundering about the Sunderland Road/Harton House Rd area disturbed a bird from its hiding place on a few occasions. Its a brown/black mottled bird with a long beak, a bit bigger than a blackbird and i tend to happen upon it hiding in hedges and flower beds (the bird, not me). I would ...
