Re: Pub Crawl
I'm not sure if it was my first underage pint, but the side room at The Britannia oppositie the town hall was popular. It was more a case of the bigger, older looking lads bringing drinks over for us novices and hoping we wouldn't get chucked out. The manager (I think his name was Gudgeon or Dundge...

Re: Open council tip
You left the area even before the John Reid Road was built. Barney, although I can't remember the exact year, I can vaguely remember the opening of that road and would guess it was late 60's. It soon gained a reputation for fast driving and unfortunately it where many people came to grief. I guess,...

Re: Marsden Street
Tom, thanks for all the names and info you provided. I had a long chat with my mother last night and she was amazed at how you could remember so many of the folks from all those years ago. When I recited the different shops you had mentioned she was almost overcome with sentimental stories and memor...

Brilliant photo's Brian, really good to see them. The pedestrian bridge over the line, are you able to say, where abouts that would be ? Bridge was at top of Spohr terrace just before pit entrance . When I worked at Westoe after Whitburn closed used to cross bridge into Iolanthe Terrace . I'm sure ...

Re: Westoe Lane Station
anyone remember the lad from horsley hill juniors who got his foot trapped in the line and the rattler ran over it, it must have been around 1960 give or take a year Remember it well, it was one of the Luthers from the Hill. Which reminds me of an incident from the 1970's, where one of the lads fro...

Re: Adelfotis II
Thanks for posting those additional photo's Pilot. Very interesting indeed and and answers my earlier question very well. I can't help but wonder how even after complete engine failure, this could happen. Did the ship have any assistance from tugs, did they also loose all navigational aids ? Also a ...

Great photo's. Thanks for posting.
It's quite amazing just how far up the beach it came, almost right up to the road.
Strange shape this ship, not much on deck and like it has a bow at both ends. Anyone know what sort of vessel it was.

Re: Vintage snaps
I think the building that had been demolished was Woods the Tailors. It had a long frontage where where there was a walk thru to increase the amount of window display. They also sold school uniforms. Woods the tailors. That's a shop I haven't heard about for a long time. Not sure why, but I thought...

Another nice pic Hartman. Thanks for posting it.
Sorry I'm not experienced or competant enough to offer an opinion on Kodak or Agfa.
The colours and clarity are excellant and very true to the real life image.

I'm trying to recall what is there now
and why was the building demolished like that to rebuild later
instead of a straight forward conversion/renovation ?

Re: Some Blurry Pics
Great photo's Hartman. That second one with the bloke diving into the shallow water ...... any idea just how shallow the water was ? That platform he dived off must be about 50 feet up, and would guess that unless the water was at least 10 feet deep he really was taking a hell of a risk. Mad ...... ...

Sless, are we really talking about the same Kev ? used to work at Boldon Drilling I think, near where Boldon and Cleadon Village meet. Last time I saw him was in (I think it's called), The Trimmers Arms (on Commercial Road near Tyne Autobodies/Selwoods). That was about 6 or 7 years ago and he said h...
