I remember the Savoy, waiting almost 6 hours just to get to see Grease. Shame it was pulled down, and also the church, I think they are still trying to sell the land the church was on.

monkeys island was more central to the little beach, we used to jump off it when the tide was in. They eventually removed it, Monkeys island used to be a place where they tied boats up back in the 'old' days, My nanna told me along time ago.

hi Anna, thanks for those pics, I was amazed at the bombed market. Does the market place look huge in that picture. Keep them comming. I do rememer a shop on the corner of boldon lane and stanhope road, was called Maynaud's Sweet Shop, It had thousands of different kinds of sweets the shop was full of them. I hope this is what your looking for. I was born 1967 so cant really remember the fizzy pop.

i too remember the gas explosion, I lived on Thornton Ave at that time. I attended Barnes Road Junior School, although I do remember the blast I cant actually remember when it was, the blast was so bad i fell off the pavement.

The Mile opened a couple of weeks ago, has anyone had a meal there yet? I went in and had a diet coke last bank hol. (designated driver) it was nice inside.
