Drop in the ocean compared to the 59 cruise missiles dropped on Syria a few weeks ago estimated cost just over $49 million for the bombs alone.

Re: Your best permanent employment

Well I did the same job more or less all my working life, but when I was at sea the job that I look back on as the most enjoyable was my time on a tanker called the Border Lass serving as 3rd mate, I joined the company in September 1968 and did two short trips without any leave and joined the Lass i...

OK we saw it coming but the way the Roker roar has been replaced by the SOL whimper is hard to take :( My advice to Moyes and the Texan if your staying tell all the players that will be deserting at the end of the season.......bug*er off now please.......let the youngsters have a go, they can hardly...

Re: what was the scariest moment you have experienced

I can't really compete with some of the above but in 1973 I was first mate on a container ship off the North African coast when all the bridge alarms went off indicating a fire in the engine room. All the engineers managed to get out with just minor burns and we sealed off the engine room to try to ...

Re: Snap General Election or 2nd EU referendum ?

Sherri in our system we vote for a candidate from South Shields and its always a Labour candidate that wins, its one of the safest Labour seat in the country, I agree with Labour on most things apart from the EU, I disagree with the Tories on most things apart the EU so for once I will abstain. Once...

Re: Snap General Election or 2nd EU referendum ?

The referendum was actually an advisory rather than binding referendum, just to clarify that point. I think Brexit will go ahead whoever wins the election, its more a case of what kind of Brexit we end up with. May is headed for a hard exit more of a clean break while the other party's want either a...

Snap General Election or 2nd EU referendum ?

Our leader has called for a general election for 8th June even though her party has 3 more years to rule, its a clever move in my opinion, Labour is sadly in disarray and if the Tories are voted back in its a green light for May to go for a hard Brexit, so its sort of put up or shut up to those who ...

I was persuaded to go to the State Opera House in Prague to watch the ballet, Cinderella, I thought I'd hate it but it was great, I enjoyed it so much on our next visit a few years later I happily went again this time for an Opera.

Way back in 1973 I spent 2 days a week in Miami for 13 weeks, more recently I spent 4 days there in 2002, its nice weather but not my favorite place.
