Re: South Shields folk working in the yards Narrow escapes.

Deliah, you're talking completely out of your backeye. I've seen you and your phony friends at first hand claiming disability allowance, just like I've seen the men at the allotments claiming it as well.
You're just a parasite thieving off the real workers of this country.

Re: South Shields folk working in the yards Narrow escapes.

Good story. My husband was a shipwright and worked at most of the Yards. Had a whole host of stories. The lad who claimed to be a pacifist and demanded to be excused working on a warship. The lad who had the top of his head sliced off 'like a boiled egg' when the corrugated metal shed roof hit him....

Re: DEAN ROAD (the deans end)

I lived in Dean terrace until about 1969. I can still remember the Sikhs at the top of the street as if it were yesterday, mainly because they gave me a hot Chilli pepper to eat, and how it burnt my mouth off. That's probably how my love affair with hot curries began.

Re: what do expats miss the most

South Shields may have its bad points, with a bunch of parasitic Labour councillors running the show.
But its my town, and I wouldn't swap it for anywhere else in the world.

Why stop at the Eureka? Bulldoze the whole of Frederick street, it's an embarrassment to the town.

Re: river Tyne photos

Yes I remember your dad, the name came to me straight away, I'm not sure if he was a Blacksmith or caulker or something like that in the end, I'll find out tomorrow when I ask a few of the 'old soldiers'.
Bearing in mind it's 20 year since I worked there, so it's at least 20 year since I saw him.

Didn't work at Redheads but can anyone remember Swan's characters like Harra's Jar (jaw) - only famous for the size of his lower manible, Pancho (plater I think) who took the drawings for the Ark Royal home until the police/special branch/secret agent types found out and raided his house looking fo...

Someone should have a natter with Barry Swainston, who has the tobacco and sweet shop in Whiteleas. His dad used to have the shop in Laygate just at the end of Frederick Street, and Barry used to work there in the 60's & 70's, before opening the shop in Whiteleas, so he would have some good inf...

Re: Frederick St.

Hate to pee on your parade, but Frederick St is so dilapidated, even the second hand shops are boarded up.
They should bulldoze the whole street, it's beyond help and makes the town look worse than a third world country.

Can anyone remember the lad that used to take his horse on the field to graze? I think he was called Sparky.
He would let you ride his horse, then smack its ar se, and off it went like a buckaroo, I had a few rides, and got unceremoniously ejected, happy days. :D
