Re: remember these sweets when you were a kid?
I remember when our neighbour gave my baby brother a glass of home made ginger beer. He took a mouthful spat it out and wanted to know who put the prickles in it.

Re: South Shields Railways
You might also find 'The South Shields, Marsden and Whitburn Colliery Railway' by William J. Hatcher a good read. You can buy that (and I think 'The Railways of South Shields') in the Discovery Museum shop. Or you could last time I was there which is admittedly a bit since. I am a Kiwi and I can re...

The last suit I bought was to wear at my sisters wedding, and that was about two years before I joined the army so that would make it 1956 when they got married and they are still married.

Before I left New Zealand to live in Australia they had a Wimpy's bar in Henderson Square (a shopping centre in the Auckland suburb of Henderson) I used to buy milk shakes there. They were the only one in New Zealand as far as I know.

Re: Cut Throat Lane
After much research, I believe I have found an answer. Cut Throat Lane was apparently an early name for Dean Road and shown on a map by Mr Richardson of Darlington in 1768. It started as a farm track, giving access to common pasture land for nine tenant farmers of Westoe village. Starting at its hi...
